Penticton Indian Band

Redline recently completed the Little Paws Children Centre for the Penticton Indian Band. This 8,500 square-foot daycare facility not only provides over one hundred new childcare spaces, but also represents a significant upgrade to the existing daycare in the area.

Designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind, the center features classrooms with sloped ceilings reaching up to 21 feet, creating an open and inviting learning environment. The project includes a commercial kitchen, equipped with high-end equipment and extensive HVAC systems, which will allow the users to offer both meal preparation for the daycare and also for community events. The outdoor play areas are thoughtfully designed with rubber matting and wood fiber elements to provide a safe and engaging space for children to play. Security, a top priority in the project, was installed with an intricate door access control system and comprehensive security intrusion and camera system.

Some additional design features include the cohesive galvalume elements seen throughout the exterior of the building. The striking galvalume metal roof is complemented by a complete custom gutter system built with stainless brackets and galvalume rainwater leaders. The exterior cladding features galvalume reveals between thoughtfully chosen Hardie colours. Inside, the long halls feature rustic cedar ceilings, while the plain sliced maple cabinetry, lockers, and doors create a touch of elegance and consistency through the facility.

Some unique elements of the project included folding partition walls, located on the north and south side of the building, which allow daycare operators to open up classrooms for a cohesive learning space.

Bathrooms throughout the building were designed with age in mind, featuring small appliances and vanities for three-year-old's!

A story pole, carved by a local Indigenous artist, Les Louis, stands out as a central feature – representing “Little Paws” of local animals and honoring the cultural heritage of the community.
